The impacts of the climate crisis are severe and impact most of all the poorest on our planet. That includes Sub-Saharan Africa, where the problems have been made worse by extensive deforestation. With support from Winnenden council, the local organisation Discover is supporting partners in Uganda, Kenya and Zimbabwe to plant and care for trees.

Here in Winnenden we can be encouraged, because we are compensating just a little for our enormous carbon footprint. Planting trees also makes a small contribution to stabilising climatic conditions both in Africa and the entire world. But are there other benefits for the local populations? With the help of voices from Africa this lecture will indicate that these benefits are contributing enormously to the health and well-being of very many communities.
